coaching

This year Lorraine and I are investing some time in a dental business coaching course that takes place over three days each quarter way down in Cornwall.

We share the coaches with three other practices and find it a fabulous source of ideas and shared experiences that help us to decide how best to develop the practice and be ready for the challenges that are coming our way in the next few years.

Great fun and we come away very much motivated to make Arden House even better – if that were possible?

my watch – a saga

I think this qualifies as a service saga!

I dropped my wristwatch on the bathroom floor last November, and it stopped working. No surprise there.

I took it to the shop I bought it from in the Regent Arcade and arranged for it to be sent for repair….. again, straight forward.

Having been promised a quote, after three weeks I had to call to get said estimate. I was informed that it would still be a couple of weeks but would have the watch in time for Christmas.

Guess what? Watch not ready for Christmas, so I had to call to find out. OK, so I wait until January, in fact late January before I called them again. “It will be here tomorrow”…. really?

So, I make a trip to town after work on the saturday and collect the watch, 12 weeks after I left it with them. A poor turnaround time I think and I am no watch repairer.

I set the time for 3.45pm and left the store.  Guess what? An hour later it still said 3.45pm.

I took it back and yes, it was still broken. I am, as you know a placid man, but I was a bit ticked off at this. I hate poor service.

So off it went again with protestations that it would have its progress followed etc. I had to make many more calls over the next few weeks and finally picked up my repaired watch early March. Four months. Unbelievable!!!

makeovers

This is the real fun stuff for me. The ability to transform a smile in just one day.

It can be multiple Crowns and inlays, replacing old dentistry for new, silver for white, new front teeth, a new smile and fresh look, all in one day.

Clients absolutely love it, especially those with busy schedules who just want the job done without multiple visits.

It appeals too to those who really dislike impressions, as it is all done with cameras and software. Ask anyone about the Cerec at Arden House, or have a look at our Cerec web page, or better still, give us a call and come and see what we are raving about!

cerec in Heathrow

Not exactly the destination of choice, but three days at a Heathrow hotel and at a nearby Cerec Symposium was a lot of fun, for a dentist.

This was an intensive course learning the new Cerec application that we have at Arden House inside out, making sure I know all the ways this technology can be applied to provide amazing dentistry.

It is quite a piece of kit, and I am now very confident that we can deal with just about any situation.

new office

Finally, the new outside office is complete. Bought on the Internet, it went up in just four days and I am very pleased with it.

We now have space for two managers to work efficiently, and an area for training and meetings that does not mean we all cram into the small practice office, or have to close the practice so often.

Now that the electrics, phones, computers, security and fire systems are in, it can be occupied.

We need to agree a name for it though as “The Shed” does not sound great. Alternatives under debate are, “The Retreat”, “The Cabin”, “The Lodge”, “The Imperial Suite”…….you get the idea.

See the photos before and during construction!

scotch eggs

Everybody knows I love to cook – and eat !

I saw a TV show and decided that instant that I had to make the scotch eggs demonstrated.

As we have ducks at home, naturally I used the eggs – but of course they are rather big and the results were huge.

Each one had two sausages worth of meat around them and they took several days to eat – brilliant though!
